Your New Job Is Waiting!
More than 167,000 job openings to be created in next five years
Now that your boxes are unpacked and you’re becoming familiar with your new surroundings, it time to look for employment. You’ll be pleased to know that job openings in Las Vegas are available at all levels in industries across the board – contrary to beliefs that Las Vegas only offers jobs in the hotel and casino industry. In fact, regardless of the city’s fame as the Entertainment Capital of the World, less than 20 percent of the jobs in Las Vegas require any level of gaming knowledge.
The Clark County School District alone hires more than 3,000 new teachers annually, and construction projects like the MGM Mirage CityCenter, a $7 billion mixed-use urban village, will employ 7,200 construction employees at its peak.
Even if your skills are not specific to one of Las Vegas’ fastest growing industries, employers in these areas and others are often in need of support staff. Office management, accounting and individuals with human resources skills are always in demand.
This demand for qualified talent in the Las Vegas marketplace has created a promising atmosphere for job growth. The tightening job market is forcing employers to increase wages to attract the best employees. Median wages in Las Vegas are often higher than those in other parts of the United States.
Some great places to start your job search include www.RecruitingNevada.com or the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce at www.lvchamber.com.
Publishing the state’s largest Nevada-specific network of employment web sites, Recruiting Nevada attracts jobseekers through socially responsible recruiting in career fields across the board and provides updated information on position openings, current employment news and links to a variety of helpful resources.
The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Career Center has job openings posted from some of Southern Nevada’s most respected companies including the Clark County School District, the Las Vegas Valley Water District and Valley Health Systems.
Also consider attending one of the many job fairs held in town. The Opportunity Boulevard job fairs, held at Green Valley Ranch every three months, are a great way to meet potential employers and explore many of the great opportunities available in Las Vegas. Sponsored by some of Las Vegas’ most respected companies, including Greenspun Media Group, the next job fairs will take place Nov. 15, 2007, Feb. 7, 2008 and April 17, 2008.
For those looking to further their education in hopes of landing the perfect job, Southern Nevada provides a number of higher educational opportunities as well. The College of Southern Nevada, Nevada State College, Southern Nevada University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas offer numerous undergraduate and graduate programs, many of them focusing on critical areas of need such as education and nursing.
Whatever your career interests or ambitions, Las Vegas provides great opportunities for advancement and growth and will continue to be among the nation’s leaders in job growth.
